System Works
Ideally all you need are 4 things.

1.
A computer. Pick a small system up at Office Depot for around $300 bucks. Bare bones would work, but it needs to be running 24/7.

2.
A dedicated phone line. Your dial-in story number and line into the computer's modem.

3. IVM Office Attendant.* This software is great, it answers the call, plays the story message, hangs up at the end. You can set up the whole year and track the number of incoming calls. Very easy to use and it's only $30 bucks! Visit them!

4.
The stories on CD! All saved as wav's, all labeled on the tray, all in the CD player and saved into the computer.

Most other dial-in story systems start at $1000, and you still have to upload each individual story each week. I hear tell the hardware is hard to service.

With a computer as your answering machine, you can upgrade to handle multiple callers,
(if you have a large demographic of callers.)
You need a modem card, 2 or 4 line modem hardware and if neccesary, an extra phone line,
which is just a call to the phone company.
We have this system up and running- see
reviews to find out where, and what they think.

* We have shopped around a lot, and most phone companies and software businesses did not have anything of this quality at this price. Frankly they were also difficult to deal with.
Isn't it weird how a phone company can have lousy phone etiquette?
NCH is an Australian company and you can download a free trial version to check it out.
Other ways... of course there are other ways. You can still load the wav's onto your existing digital player- you'll need something that can play wav's.
Or if your library/venue has a voice-mailbox in their phone system, it is possible to upload these stories as greetings and set them to play. If your library
has a large phone system, chances are you have a tech person who can help make it happen.
Your town may have a company that provides a voice-mailbox service- for a monthly fee they can upload the stories and rotate them for you.
